Types Of Insurance That Can Be Sold From Home
As an independent insurance broker, I have sold insurance as a remote insurance agent throughout my career. It is important to understand that there are several types of insurance you can sell as a remote agent, and that you aren’t limited to just a few options.
I’ve built my business on a foundation of car insurance and home insurance. Property and Casualty (P&C) insurance, which includes car and home insurance, is a sustainable practice for licensed insurance agents due to its recurring revenue from policy renewals.
Unlike life insurance, which is a one-time sale without any renewals, P&C insurance policies are typically renewed annually, providing a steady stream of income for the agent.
As people continue to own cars and homes, the demand for P&C insurance remains consistent, making it a reliable source of income for agents. Because of this, selling P&C insurance can be a good way for agents to build a sustainable and profitable insurance business.
That’s just my preference though! Of course, there are agents who has done great while selling other products from home too! This next section will detail insurance products you can sell from home effectively!

Life Insurance
Life insurance is a popular product for individuals who are looking to sell insurance from home. Life insurance policies provide financial protection for loved ones in the event of the policyholder’s death. There are two main types of life insurance: term life insurance and permanent life insurance.
- Term Life Insurance: Term life insurance provides coverage for a set period of time, such as 10 or 20 years. These policies may be more affordable and are often easier to sell to clients.
- Permanent Life Insurance: Permanent life insurance provides coverage for the entire lifetime of the policyholder and includes an investment component. These policies may be more expensive and may be more challenging to sell to clients.
- Annuities: Annuities are a type of insurance product that provide a steady stream of income to policyholders, usually after they retire. They offer an alternative to traditional savings and investment options, and can provide a source of guaranteed income in retirement.
Health Insurance
Health insurance is another product that can be sold from home. Health insurance policies provide coverage for medical expenses, such as doctor’s visits, hospital stays, and prescription medications. There are two main types of health insurance: individual health insurance and group health insurance.
- Individual Health Insurance: Individual health insurance policies are purchased directly from insurance companies and provide coverage for a single individual or family. These policies may be more expensive and may be more challenging to sell to clients.
- Group Health Insurance: Group health insurance policies are typically offered through an employer and provide coverage for a group of individuals. These policies may be easier to sell to clients but may have more restrictive coverage options.
Property And Casualty Insurance
Property and casualty insurance provides coverage for damages to a person’s home, car, or other personal property. These policies may be more challenging to sell to clients, as they often require a detailed understanding of the policyholder’s specific risks and needs. Property and casualty insurance can be a lucrative product for insurance agents who are able to successfully sell these policies.
Top Insurance Companies For Selling From Home
Throughout my career as an insurance professional, I’ve learned that its important to work for a good company for a variety of reasons. You want to have good benefits, work culture, and support, but also working with the right company allows you to focus on your clients more.
Some top insurance companies for remote insurance agents that I recommend are:
- Life Insurance: Life insurance companies are not hard to get “appointments” with (unlike P&C companies). Because of this, insurance agents usually contract with a brokerage that allows instant access to the majority of large life insurance carriers. Check out Gradient as a good solution for a life insurance brokerage (I’ve worked with them and they are great!)
- Best Health Insurance: Humana is a health insurance company and is the nation’s 3rd largest health insurance company. They ranked 52nd on a Fortune 500 list of best places to work in 2020. They offer a variety of remote and hybrid positions.
- Best Property And Casualty Insurance: It is very hard to get appointments with good P&C companies which is why I decided to contract with SIAA and the local master agency. This cluster, also known as an aggregator, gives me access to huge companies such as Travelers, Nationwide, Safeco, and more.
- Best Pet Insurance: Embrace pet insurance is a great pet insurance company to work from home with. They have a flexible PTO, continuing education program, annual bonuses, and more. And, of course, discounts on pet insurance. They have a variety of remote positions available.
